GENERAL TRACTOR RULES
1. Contests are open to tractors with rubber tires, no four wheel drives allowed. No dual tires, tire studs, or chains permitted. There will be six classes of tractors. Contests are open to local stock non-members. A local stock constitutes a 25-mile radius from the pull site. Each local contestant will receive an award. Weight classes for Stock, Super Stock, and Modified are 950 and 1050. Weight classes for Pro Modified are 1100 (2007 rule change) and 1150. Weight classes for the Super Modified class are 1175 (2007 rule change) and 1250. Weight classes for the Outlaw are 1350 and 1450
2. The tractor must remain within boundaries of contest course during the pull or will be disqualified.
3. All tractors excluding local stock must be equipped with a "dead man" throttle. No compressed cylinders (either air or gas) will be allowed in the fuel system.
4. All tractors excluding local stock must have an adequate device to prevent the tractor from turning over. Tractors must have two devices - either skid plates or dolly wheels - one located on each side of the drawbar, with the combination of the two strong enough to support the weight of the tractor when a jack is placed under them to raise the tractor. Wheels must be at least 1 inch wide and 5 inches in diameter; skid plates are to be at least 3 inches square at the ground contact point. Wheels or skid plates are to be no less than 5 inches behind the rear tire and must not be more than 5 inches above the ground.
5. Drawbar must be stationary when pulling. Drawbar must be solidly attached to the tractor. The drawbar can not move while pulling. Maximum drawbar height is 13 inches from the top of the hitch. The hitching device parallel to the ground. Hook point on drawbar must have at least a 2 inch hole, and must be more than ¾ inch forward from the back edge of the hitching device. The drawbar must be no less than ½” material and there must be a 6” opening around the hitch.
6. No portion of any tractor shall interfere with the sled or sled hitch during the pull.
7. A kill switch must be attached to the rear of the tractor, behind the driver, in such a position that it can be easily hooked to the sled and will not interfere with the weights. Kill switch needs to be a ring strong enough to withstand breaking when pulled and large enough to attached the devise used by the sled operator to pull the kill switch. (2007 rule change) Kill switch must be located out in the open, above the weights and weight brackets and clearly visible.
8. All weights must be secured safely to the tractor. Loss of anything, whether first puller or not (power train breakage excluded) while hooked to the sled will be cause for disqualification.
9. All exhaust must discharge vertically within 20 degrees and extend at least 12 inches vertically from the top of the port, or a minimum of two 90 degree bends are in the tubing exiting the engine, and/or a stock muffler is used.(2007 rule change) All exhaust must be securely attached.
10. All tractors excluding stock (although highly recommended in stock class) and local stock must have steel and/or aluminum flywheels. All flywheels, clutch assemblies, drive belts, chains, and universal joints must have safety shields. All U joints must be shielded 360 degrees with ¼" (.250") aluminum or 3/16" (.187") steel. The minimum length shall not be less than ½" greater than the U joint assembly. Any rotating mass off the crankshaft must be shielded 360 degrees by1/8" steel or ½" aluminum.
11. All outlaw tractors must have commercial scatter blankets or shields covering the flywheel. All automatic transmissions must be completely covered with a commercial scatter blanket. Chains, clutches, centrifugal supercharge housing, turbo charger housings, and engine driven supercharger belts, must be shielded with a minimum of 1/16-inch steel. All turbocharged engines must have 3/8" bolts, grade #5 or stronger, in the vertical portion of the exhaust pipe. Bolts to be installed 90 degrees to each other, within 1" of each other. All engines must have shielding to keep any engine parts from leaving engine area in the event of internal engine failure. Superchargers must have approved restraints to prevent blower from separating from engine in the event of engine or blower malfunction. All shielding must be designed to protect both operator and spectators.
12. All cast iron block engines are to have shields opposite the camshaft side of the engine, and must be a minimum of 1/16-inch steel or .090" aluminum. Shield must be from the bottom of the engine to 4 ½ inches above the centerline of the crankshaft and must cover the width of the block and must be securely fastened.
13. All tractors with automatic transmissions must be equipped with a neutral switch and light and wired so that the tractor will not start unless transmission is in park.
14. No tractor will be started at the pull site, including pit area, unless an NGTPA qualified, registered driver for that class of tractor is in the seat. NO EXCEPTIONS.
15. Helmets are mandatory. Fire suits are mandatory in all classes but stock. Long pants and shoes (no sandals) are highly recommended in Stock.
16. All tractors must have a fire extinguisher with a gage and one at each end of the track.
17. Driver must remain in the seat during the pull and have complete control at all times, with foot within easy reach of the brake or clutch, and have one hand on the steering wheel at all times. Feet must remain on foot pegs or footplates. Driver cannot bounce in the seat. Driver cannot open hood or side shields while tractor is in motion.
18. Weights on the tractor can be moved. Driver will have a maximum of three minutes after the sled is ready to finish moving weights. No weights can be moved while pulling.
19. Driver must operate his/her tractor in a safe manner and at such a speed as to be in full control at all times. Outside help will be allowed by helping the driver get started at the sled (releasing the clutch, and finding the right gear), but driver must be able to stop the tractor themselves at the end of the track or before going out of bounds. Excessive display of speed or recklessness will be grounds for disqualification. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.
20. All tractors must have two front wheels, and back tires equipped with one or more workable brakes. All tractors must run fenders, which are designed to prevent the driver from coming into contact with the back tires.
21. No portion of any tractor, including weight and weight bracket, may exceed 8 feet in front of the center of the rear axle and 5 feet in width.
22. All pulls must start from a tight hitch. No jerking will be permitted. Contestants will be allowed two consecutive attempts and 60 feet in which to start the sled. Any pull over 60 feet will be measured and no repull will be allowed unless you are the first puller.
23. Number one puller will be the test puller and may take the pull if the weight transfer sled is weighed correctly, or he may decline the pull and drop to third, or drop to the last position. He must state his preference before unhooking from the sled, and before the distance is measured. If the weight transfer sled needs further adjustment, the first puller after each adjustment will be treated as number one puller.
24. Pull off’s will be done right after the class. No changes will be made to the track. (2004 rule change)
25. Tractors must be stopped immediately upon signal from the flagger. Failure to do so is grounds for disqualification. Flagman must flag immediately when out of bounds, loss of equipment, or upon any disqualification. Flagman’s decision is final. Flagman must let puller know his decision before the tractor is unhooked from the sled.
26. No one under the age of 12 will be allowed to pull a Pro Stock, Modified, Pro Modified, Super Modified, or Outlaw tractor, unless you have approval from the board. There is no age limit in Stock.
27. Violation of any rule shall constitute a disqualification.
28. No alcohol consumption by members before or during the pull. Drinking after the pulls is only permitted if the fair grounds allow. If you are suspected of drinking the board will make the decision if you can participate.
29. In the case of a tie, the tractor
with the most first place wins will be awarded first place. In the event that
there is a tie for first place wins we will move to second place wins. (2007
rule change).
CHEATING OR ARGUMENTATION
1. First offense verbal warning, loss of points for the day, and loss of placement earnings.
2. Second offense written warning, loss of points for the year, loss of placement earnings for the year.
3. After second offense the puller will not be allowed to pull for a calendar year.
GENERAL SLED RULES
1. A fire extinguisher is required on all sleds.
2. All sleds must be equipped with swivels on each end of the hook chain. The length of the hook chain shall be 40 inches as measured from the point of contact of the hook to the point of hitch on the sled. Point of hitch on the sled is not to exceed 4 inches above the ground.
3. All sleds must be equipped with a device to activate the kill switch on the tractor. This device must be within easy reach of the sled operator so that the kill switch can be pulled should the tractor become unsafe during the pull.
4. All sleds must be equipped with a green light that is to be activated only after the person hooking the tractors to the sled has given the signal to the sled operator that the tractor has been properly hooked.
GENERAL INFORMATION
1. We would like all tractors and people associated with them to have a neat appearance.
2. There will be a drivers meeting 15 minutes before each pull.
3. A tear down protest consists of a deposit of $50.00 by the protestor. Protester can be anyone competing in that class. Tear down consists of head removal only, and/or fuel check. (The tech committee at their discretion will also make a fuel check on a random basis.) If said tractor is illegal, owner will forfeit all winnings of the day and all entry fees for this tractor, and the $50.00 is returned to the protester. If the tractor is illegal, tractor and driver or owner will be suspended for 30 days with loss of all accumulated points to that date for a first offense, and a year suspension for a second offense. Tear down is by owner or his mechanic. A member of the Executive Board must be present at time of tear down, which will take place within one hour after the pull is completed.
Note: We highly recommend that anyone who feels that a tractor is not legal should contact any Officer or Executive Board member before that class starts. One of these officials will check the tractor and driver before he or she pulls. If a problem is discovered we can correct it before the tractor pulls. This will avoid a lot of embarrassing and difficult moments for everyone involved. If a protest is going to be made, it must be done before the pull is completed and paybacks are made.
4. There will be a $120 membership fee per tractor, which will be paid on or before the first pull of the season or you will not be allowed to hook to the sled (2007 rule change). Local stock $5. A $25 dollar non-member insurance fee must be paid at the time of registration of tractor. No hook fee or hook points will be awarded to any nonmembers.(2007 rule change) Non-association members will be allowed to compete at two sanctioned events before joining the association, and points will begin to accumulate from the time membership is paid.(2007 rule change) Registration for the classes must be completed no later than ½ hour before the pull starts. Hook fees are $12.00 per hook with a limit of 2 hooks per tractor per sanction.
5. All tractors must be registered with the association as to the class they will pull in. Once the tractor is registered in that class it cannot drop down a class without approval from the Executive Board. All requests for re-registration must be in writing to the Executive Board and must have majority approval prior to the pull. Heads should be removed from tractors so technical inspection can be made before a decision on re-registration can be made. Re-registration will be $20.00 per tractor.
6. All members will receive points for placing. Place points will be awarded to measurable pulls of at least 1".
Points given for placings are for paid members (tractors) only:
EXAMPLE:
6 tractors; 1st place – 6 points, 6th place – 1 point
12 tractors; 1st place – 12 points, 12th place – 1 point
Points go to the tractor, not the driver. It is your responsibility to see that your tractor gets the points it earns. If someone else drives your tractor, please be sure that it is noted on the entry form.
Note: It is your responsibility to tell the announcer if you are going to scratch, before the end of you class. If you don't you will be charged the hook fee.
